Featured workshop

AI and Student Thinking: Helping Without Taking Over

A practical workshop for elementary and secondary educators.

AI can produce a paragraph, summarize a reading, or solve a problem in seconds. But better output doesn’t always mean better learning.

The tools are here and students are using them. The question is: how do we teach so the learning still happens?

In this interactive workshop, educators explore where AI can support learning and where it can take over the very skill students are developing. Through classroom examples, guided discussion, and a hands-on planning activity, participants consider when AI assistance fits and when it doesn’t, across grades and subjects.

The workshop includes examples from writing, reading, mathematics, and science, with opportunities to apply the ideas to your own teaching. No prior AI expertise is required.

What you’ll take away

  • A practical framework for deciding when AI assistance aligns with a learning goal
  • Strategies for making students’ reasoning and understanding visible
  • One redesigned classroom task that preserves meaningful student thinking
  • Clear language for explaining permitted assistance and student responsibilities
